Ogoh- Ogoh

Nyepi certainly identical with the Ogoh-Ogoh in a series of celebrations before Nyepi. Yes, Ogoh-Ogoh was always there when Pengerupukan, because pengerupukan is one moment of the most eagerly awaited. Well, this time, we will discuss a bit about the Ogoh-ogoh.

     Ogoh-ogoh is a work of sculpture art in Balinese culture that describe personality Bhuta Kala. Ogoh-ogoh made approximately one month before pengerupukan. 
In Pengerupukan, Ogoh-Ogoh embodiment is described as being sculpture Bhuta Kala great and terrible, such as a giant.

     Apart form giant, Ogoh-ogoh are often depicted in the form of the Dragon, Elephant, or the Gods. Not infrequently there is also a make Ogoh-Ogoh in the form of famous artists, world leaders, and even criminals or corrupt. Ngembak Geni

Last of the celebration of Nyepi is a day that falls on Ngembak Geni coating ping (1 ) sasih kedasa. On this day is the Caka New Year begin. 

     After all Nyepi series progresses, starting from the Melasti, Tawur Agung and The Peak of Nyepi, the next day, Hindus perform one ritual again. That is Ngembak Geni. When Ngembak Geni, Hindus are advised to carry out the Panca Dharma, namely : 

1.     Dharma Santi, namely intersection wirasa, sorry forgive 

2.     Dharma Tula, which is a discussion abaou the meaning/ significance celebrate penyepian 

3.     Dharma Sedana, that is charity to the poor or to be given alms 

4.     Dharma Gita, which is red/ sing songs (sacred hymns) 

5.     Dharma Yatra, which is visiting the holly places 

     Hindus usually go to where water source, such as beaches, rivers, lakes, or other water source to bathe in the water source. The aim is to cleanse yourself of negative influences during the past year, and purify themselves in the new year. 

     After their bath (wash), they go home to relatives/ kin to apologize, if in past yera they've done wrong something. Vice versa, we also recommend to forgive each other. Ngembak Geni meaning of family, harmony, and high sense of tolerance. For indeed, the human must always forgive others who have done nothing wrong. 

     So, we can imitate the activities at the  Ngembak Geni time. That is, forgive the wrong, and apologize if we ever do wrong. With done Ngembak Geni expected we can deepen a sense of kinship and a sense of togetherness among families and neighbors.

The Peak of Nyepi

At the time full moon kedasa, came the culmination of all series of Nyepi. On that day atmosphere like dead, no lights lit on this day, vehicle sound usually heard on the street is silent, because on this day all Hindus perform Catur Bratha Penyepian, namely : 

1.     Amati Geni (not fiery), Amati Geni means all the Hindus who perform Hari Raya Nyepi   may not turn out anything that is light and bright, like a lamp, candles, etc 

2.     Amati Karya (not working), Amati Karya means all Hindus who perform Hari Raya Nyepi should not be working. All work performed must be dispensed pasa today, including institutions govemment agencies,offices, and factories - factories that exist in the region who perform Hari Raya Nyepi 

3.     Amati Lelungan (not traveling), Amati Lelungan means all Hindus who perform Nyepi should not be treveling or our of the home environment, such as shopping at the market, go to the house of a friend,etc 

4.     Amati Lelanguan (do not do entertaiment), Amati Lelungan means all Hindus who perform Nyepi should not be having fun and should not be doing excessive entertainment such as watching TV, using the HP, held a feast, and all activities that are fun 

    Also during the ceremony Nyepi Hindus were usually fasted the entire day. Then after the ceremony ended Nyepi, the next day all Hindus perform Ngembak Geni, which is usually done with the bath in spring water, such as beaches and lakes. Later in the show one after another with forgiveness between one another, and brother. 

    That's the peak of Nyepi and hopefully the new period that will come into better human life.

Tawur Agung or Tawur Kesanga

Tawur Agung held one day before Nyepi, namely the "Tilem sasih Kesanga"

      Tawur Agung a ceremony to ask the harmony and safety of the Earth and its contents. Through this ceremony, Hindus begged inner and outer peace and harmonious relationship with God and the natural surroundings.

      Tawur Agung implemented by almost all Hindus in Indonesia the main objective the implementation of the Great or mecaru Tawur is to sacrifice the sacred specifically targeted to the Bhutakala memngganggu not to our environment, in order to live side by side, harmonious and balanced. In addition, the Supreme Tawur also undertaken to align harmonious relationship between Human with Human, Human with Animals, and Humans with Plants (Tri Hita Karana).

       Tawur Agung implemented gradually, starting from the household environment, banjar, villages, and State, called Bhuta Yadnya. Hindu ceremony Blind Yadnya at all levels of society, ranging from individual families, banjo, village, district and beyond, by taking one of the types caru (such offerings), according to his ability. Bhuta Yadnya were each named Panca Sata (small), Panca Sanak (medium), and Tawur Agnung (large). Tawur or pecaruan itself is a purification / pemarisuda Bhutakala, and all leteh (impurities) are all expected to disappear. Caru undertaken at home each consisting of rice abroad (five) colors of 9 package along with side dishes pauknya, such as Brumbun chicken (colored) along tetabuhan wine / wine.

      Mecaru followed by a pengerupukan ceremony, which is spread spread tawur rice, torch-obori home and around the yard, menyemburi house and yard with gunpowder, and hitting any objects (usually gong) to speak crowded / noisy. These steps are taken to expel Buta Kala of the home environment, yards, and the environment. Especially in Bali, pengrupukan usually celebrated with a parade ogoh-ogoh Buta Kala embodies that paraded around the neighborhood, and then burned. Goal is the same which drive Buta Kala from the surrounding environment.

Melasti or Mekiis

Nyepi is a Hindu’s festival day which are celebrated every Caka New Year. Before the day of Nyepi, there are several series of ceremonies performed Hindus in Indonesia. This time we will discuss one of a series of rites performed before Hindu holiday Nyepi, the Melasti.

     Melasti an initial series of several series of holiday Nyepi. Melasti usually held about three to one day before Nyepi, based on condition, time, and the local environment (desa, kala, patra).

     Place of execution Melasti determined according to local environmental conditions. For the Hindus who live in the mountains, the Melasti held on the lake. When Hindus living near the coast, the Melasti done at sea. Whereas for Hindus who live far from the sea and the lakes, Melasti can be done at the nearest water source.

     Why Hindus perform Melasti? Actually Melasti aims to purify "pratima" and objects that purified and to cleanse themselves of impurities (leteh).

     Melasti Procession usually involves many people, because the equipment and objects that will be washed very much. However, Hindus are very enthusiastic in following the Melasti procession.

Nyepi's Understanding

      Nyepi is a new year who celebrated according to lunar calendar or Caka by Hindus in Bali once every 1 year.  Nyepi comes from the word "lonely", which means quiet. Nyepi Day fell on Tilem Kesanga trusted is the day of purification of the gods who are in the center of the ocean and bring Tirta Amrita or water of life.

      During Nyepi, there is no activity as usual. Everyone, whatever his religion, forbidden to the public road. Electricity should not be fired, unless the family had a baby or sick people who were given limited information. First, electricity is turned off from the substation. Later not, because people protested, not only electric torch tool, but the energy of modern equipment. Public services, such as the International Airport was closed, but not for hospitals.
